Right Time Right Place Robby Kreger

This story behind the picture is about the being at the right time at the right place. I have been working as a web developer for some time now and I was contacted by some guys about having a site developed for them. I went to see them about there project and We talked about what they would need for their website (The sale and premotion of there guitars). The clients asked if I could take some photos of a guitar player from the Tonight Show who was going to be at this club in Los Angeles. Now this was not part of my deal with the development of the website but I thought it might be a test to see if I was a team player. I agreed to go to the club and thought it might be interesting to go shoot as I would be on the guest list. Normally I would go to the club for the sound check but I was not getting paid so the deal is I show up and shot and get whatever I get.

The main attraction of the night was Andrea Whitt who plays the slide guitar and fiddle a very nice-looking women that makes for me a more interesting shoot. I get to the club and the very first thing I see is that the lighting is not very good. I find out later (Video Guys) have made all the lights very magenta and is looking like some sort of psychedelic LSD trip.

The backdrop was also one of these oil swirly things projected on a big screen behind the band it was all very interesting but not the best to shoot at a live gig and if there are no white lights on the members of the band you can’t see the band member very well

I talked to a member of the band to let them know that I am there at the request of my contact and I was informed that the guy I came to shoot was going to play this guitar later and only for one song so I have to hang about. I start shooting some of the band Andrea. Then I spotted on stage this Gibson SG sitting in a stand and it’s not for any of the players on stage. I keep thinking were have I seen this guitar before it looks very formular, and just then I see this guy sitting by the side of the stage and I think I know who he is but he looks older and I can not bring his name to my mind then I hear someone say his name “Robby Kreger” from the doors. I look back and he is not there anymore and I think what! Have I missed that opportunity to photography Robby Kreger.

Then that in the next moment he comes back and takes the stage and boom he is playing a doors song and the crowd go wild plus the phones are everywhere it’s like a sea of phones. I found it hard to find a way in to take shots myself as no one has respect for a working photographer any more, for me it’s like they are stealing my thunder. But as you can see, I got the shots. So right time right place! The images were a bit had to get and the color was a bit off but in the case of Robby Krieger the crazy color light was sort of OK for a psychedelic theme! I used a Canon D6 with a 50mm lens
